Gospel Life _ 13
Good Morning Church,
December 25, 2016—Christmas! WOW! This year has flown by! I am so thankful this morning for the wonderful blessings God has given me in my life. I am so blessed more abundantly than I could ever ask or imagine. And it is all because of the birth of Jesus! Yes the birth of Jesus is the reason for every good thing that has ever happened to me! Because Jesus was born, I am able to be the husband, father, and spiritual leader I was called to be. But more than anything else… the greatest gift I was ever given, the greatest by so much that nothing could ever match it; this gift of Salvation!
You see this morning church Christmas is on a Sunday and we get to come to church and celebrate as a super-natural community of believers. We come and celebrate the birth of our savior! This celebration is futile if you haven’t been redeemed! This is why Jesus was born! As we look around at our family, friends, and loved ones this morning let us always remember salvation. Do not forget why you are waking up this morning with smiles on your faces as you watch your children run happily to the tree and begin opening their gifts. Remember that they are opening these gifts because Jesus was born to give the greatest gift ever given—Salvation!
I am going to preach this morning the last sermon in our #GospelLife series. The Apostle Paul closes out his letter with some very interesting words about boasting! He has spent six chapters articulating the very purpose of the Christian life. He has taught us that our Gospel Life is all about the Spirit’s saturating power consuming everything about us. And his very last words are about boasting—but not boasting as we would typically define it, but boasting in the cross!
Church this morning we come and celebrate the birth of Jesus because he was born to die on the cross so that we may attain redemption! This is the purpose of Christmas! So my question this morning is this—Have you received the greatest gift ever? Have you excitedly unwrapped the gift that Jesus died to give you? Have you surrendered your life to the awesome grace of Jesus Christ? Today you can! Today you can be saved! Right now even as you are reading this blog you can accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior! Oh, what a glorious gift indeed!
We have all fallen short of the glory of God. Our sin requires a just punishment and that just punishment is eternity in hell. But Jesus was born; lived a perfect sinless life so that he could be the only qualified to be an all-sufficient Savior. He was hung upon that cross and died for your sins! He paid the just price for your sins so that you can be saved. He was buried but did not stay in the grave. Three days later he rose again sealing his victory over death for eternity! The only thing you have to do is confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and raised from the dead and you shall be saved! Will you accept this most glorious gift today? That will be the greatest Christmas gift you ever received!
Come join us this morning at Joy Baptist Church as we celebrate the birth of our Lord.
