Good Morning Church…
I have always had somewhat of a fascination with Giants. As a child Jack and the Bean Stock was one of my favorite stories. I have always wished I was just a little bit taller. I have often thought about the things I could get accomplished if I was a giant myself. David and Goliath is probably my favorite story in all of the bible.
However, when you take the biblical account of Giants you can’t help but notice one particular trait that always jumps out. Giants are bad! I cannot find one account in the entire Bible where a Giant is referenced and good things happened. Giants in the Bible were vile people who bullied their way around taking whatever they wanted. They came against God’s people intent on destroying them; keeping them from attaining the promises of God!
We have Giants today! They may not be the 9 foot, big headed, sword wielding, trash talking giants like Goliath, but Giants nevertheless and just as dangerous and destructive. You see our Giants today may look different but their methodology remains the same. The Giants today come into our lives in a sneaky spiritual way that wreaks havoc in every part of our lives. The Giants of today are Fear, Discouragement, Loneliness, Guilt, Temptation, Anger, Resentment, Doubt, Procrastination, Failure, and Jealousy.
Sometimes they come at us with guns blazing and sometimes they are covert in their attacks. But they all have one thing in common and that is to keep us from turning and depending upon the provision of God! The Giants in our lives have only one desire. Their only purpose is to see us ruined in our faith, turning away from God and succumbing to the evil in this dark and depraved world!
God always had an answer for Giants in the Bible. Giants never intimidated God! They were never an issue. God told his people to go and take the land that he had promised. It didn’t matter to God that this land had Giants. Why? Because God is bigger than any Giant and his people need not fear the Giants because God is with them. No Giant can stand if God has gone before us… “Know therefore today that he who goes over before you as a consuming fire is the Lord your God. He will destroy them and subdue them before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as the Lord has promised you.” (Deut. 9:3)
I am calling you out this morning to be Giant Killers! Today is your call to be Mighty Men of God just like David and his mighty men, all of them Giant Killers! Today you can come and be encouraged by the Word of God and see what it means to stand before a Giant with just a sling and stone and destroy him because your faith in God is all you need! We can all be Giant Killers… do not let the Giants in your lives render you impotent! Stand up and grab you sword, run to battle, and stand before the bully proclaiming the power of Gospel! Today is the Day! Will you stand before your Giant today?
We are going to slay the Giant of Fear this morning. We would love for you to join us.
