Giant Killer _ 08

Good morning Church,

I hope and pray that last week went well for you and that you wake up this morning prepared to begin the new week recharged spiritually as you find a place to worship the King of Kings this morning. We are learning how to be Giant Killers at Joy Baptist Church and this morning I am preaching the eighth sermon in this series on Taming your Temptation.

This is going to be a giant that everyone needs to kill. This is a particular nasty giant because this giant is Satan’s very favorite tool to use against the child of God. As a matter of fact Satan has been dispatching this giant since the very beginning of humanity. The giant of Temptation began his nasty work with Adam and Eve and he continues his destruction with every vulnerable Christian today! If we are ever going to be effective witnesses for the Kingdom of God then we had better recognize the power of this Giant and be ready to kill him at the first sign of his presence.

Church we really need to listen well today to the everlasting powerful Word of God. We need to pay close attention to the fact that some of us think we are no longer susceptible to this giant. We think we have it all together and this giant has no power over our lives. Well I am telling you this morning that is exactly what this giant wants you to think. That is when this giant will catch you sleeping!

I am reminded of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane crying out to his father in Heaven begging that his cup be taken from him. He just wanted his friends to pray with him. Pray for him. Pray and be alert. But they did not because they didn’t think that temptation could bother them. I mean they had been walking around with Jesus for three years. Yet there in the midst of Jesus’ greatest turmoil what do we find these disciples doing? SLEEPING! “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt. 26:41)

Church the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak and this Giant of Temptation preys on the weakness of our flesh! You need to hear this sermon. Don’t miss it!
