Good morning church and happy Father’s Day!
I am sitting here this morning trying to figure out some real great words of encouragement for our fathers out there. I want to say that “you can do it!” I want to say “You are all good fathers.” I want to say that “Being a dad is the most amazing job in the world!”
All of these things are true. But they are all futile without Jesus! They are all worthless without Christ! I am thinking this morning about the father figures I had in my life. I do not recall one of them ever telling me about Jesus. That doesn’t mean that they were not believers. Well I know that my Pops (Step-father) is a believer but he struggled to share his faith with me when I was young. And to be quite honest our family was not what you would define as functional. Now there was my uncle. He surely claims to be a believer but never once did he ever tell me about Jesus. I can remember a lot of stories and even some great spent times with my Uncle at his house waking up to classic rock-n-roll being blared from his stereo at 7 am in the morning. These were fun times. But not one word about Jesus. Then there was my dad. I do not think he is a believer. I have shared Christ with him on a number of occasions and he will talk about how “the good Lord” will take care of him. But I am not sure at all that he has ever called upon the name of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
When I think about Fathers this morning, I wonder how many of them will wake up and get their families ready for church? I wonder how many of them will wake up and pray with them before he leaves today? I wonder how many fathers will get up today on this their special Father’s day and make it a point to make sure that his children know that Jesus has died for their sins? Will today be the day that those fathers who have proclaimed the gospel to their families where their children will be saved?
I am not saying that only those fathers who have shared the gospel with their children are the only perfect fathers! I want you to know that there is only one perfect father and He is Our Father who is in heaven and Holy be His Name! None of us are perfect men! But I want you to know that the best thing you can do on this Father’s day is to bring your children to church and show them what it means to be a Real Man! A real man of God! Who is desperately concerned for their eternal destination!
Sure it is your day! I am praying that you have a wonderful day where your spouse and your children will honor you for how amazing you are as a father! It is my prayer that this honor they are giving you is a direct result of you being the man that God has called you to be and that you have clearly proclaimed to your family the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is what it mean to be a real man!
I would love for you to come and join us this morning at Joy Baptist Church. This morning I am going to preach on what it looks like to be a Real Man!
